This position isnconsidered essential personnel for emergency situations, including inclement weather conditions. As needed, works shift work, scheduled extended hours and/or responds to emergencies outside of normal working hours and holidays. Management reserves the right to limit the use of annual leave during mission essential timeframes.nnnnnJob RequirementsnnEssential Duties & Responsibilities Does this position have supervisory responsibilities? Nonnnn1. Performs assigned tasks including but not limited to service, adjustment, replacement, repair and maintenance of heating, ventilating, air-conditioning, boilers, refrigeration equipment, components and parts.nn2. Observes and tests proper operation of heating, ventilating, air-conditioning units and boilers to determine need for adjustment, replacement or repair.nn3. Services, adjusts, and places central HVAC equipment into operation by checking appropriate gauges andninstruments to maintain proper operating conditions within the operating specifications.nn4. Advises mechanical systems manager of difficulties related to warranty issues that may require a contractor to respond.nn5. Responds to emergency situations as needed.nn6. May perform duties of lower level personnel engaged in servicing, adjustment, replacement, repair andnnmaintenance of heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning equipment, components and related parts.nn7. Performs other duties as required.nnnMinimum QualificationsnnnnnTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.nnThe requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.nnReasonable accommodations may be made on request to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.nnnnnEducationnnnn High school diploma or equivalency certificate. Appropriate vocational training preferred.nnnnnExperiencennnn Three (3) years of progressively responsible heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning work experience.nnnnnKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesnnnnnSkilled in the installation, repair and maintenance of light commercial or residential HVAC equipment and systems.nBasic knowledge of refrigeration, HVAC, steam and condensate systems, pressure and temperature checks, and   electric including troubleshooting and servicing.nExperience and knowledge of roof top units, heat pumps, and electrical control systems.nWorking knowledge of plumbing and electrical trades as it pertains to HVAC systems.nGeneral knowledge of OSHA regulations and safe practices.nAbility to work independently and coordinate work with others on a job site.nDemonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.nStrong customer service orientation.nAbility to meet deadlines.nMust provide own basic hand tools and some test equipment (i.e. manifold gauges, Amprode).nAbility to work shift work, scheduled extended hours and/or respond to emergencies outside of normal working   hours and holidays as needed.nAbility to employ business technology tools (e.g. E-mail, AACPS Intranet, electronic benefits enrolment tool, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.).nnnnQualification Requirements for Employment in Grade 12 as a New Hire or Transfer:nnIn addition to all the requirements of Grade 11 listed above:nnnnFive (5) years of progressively responsible heating, ventilating and air-conditioning work experience.nExperience working as a work leader for a small crew.nExperience laying out work for other members of a crew.nAbility to read and interpret drawings and specifications, and schematics to determine location, size, capacity and type of new equipment specified.nAbility to diagnose causes of equipment breakdowns, test parts with appropriate instruments, disassembles and assembles parts, and repair equipment and associated components.nWorking knowledge of boiler service and safeties.nExperience adjusting, repairing, overhauling such parts as reciprocating compressors, centrifugal pumps, water pumps, coils, motors, louvers, dampers, filters, pneumatic electric and electronic controls, blowers, solenoids, thermostats, humidistat and registers.nnnnLicenses/Certificationsnnnn Must have a valid Maryland State Journeyman HVAC license and CFC certification. License and certification mustn    be maintained throughout employment.nn Possess a valid Maryland Class C driver’s license plus proof of good driving record.nnnnCareer Ladder RequirementsnnnnnEligibility for Consideration for Advancement from Grade 11 to Grade 12 requires:nnnnTwo (2) years of continuous successful experience in the position at the Grade 11 level.nnnnMastery of all duties and responsibilities of the position.nnnnEvidence of completion of additional training that may be recommended by supervisor and/or participation in approved professional development programs or courses, approved in advance by the supervisor.nnnnAchievement of identified goals as they relate to the needs of the district and as established by the supervisor.nnnnConsistent maintenance of an effective and orderly work environment.nnnnConsistent compliance with general office procedures such as Standards contained in the AACPS Employee Handbook; Demonstration of discretion and excellent customer service; Regular and punctual attendance; and Building dress code, including wearing AACPS ID badge. Above Satisfactory overall job performance for two most recent consecutive years.nnnnPhysical RequirementsnnnnnAbility to perform manual labor, carry tools and handle materials of 80 pounds, work at heights on aerial lifts, scaffolding, stepladders and/or extension ladders, crawl in, under, over, or through equipment, and work in confined spaces. May be required to do extensive walking, bending, stooping crawling, and kneeling in the course of completing daily work assignments.nnnnAbility to work in adverse environments, indoors and outdoors (hot or cold, as required) and/or in inclement weather. Assignments may involve exposure to dust, dirt, noise, climbing ladders, crawling and extreme temperatures. Some assignments will involve exposure to disagreeable elements and injury hazards.nnnEmployee Safety:nnnnEmployee is required to use safety devices and protective equipment in order to minimize the frequency and severity of work-related accidents. Adheres to safe practices and methods in the operation of equipment and supplies related to his/her particular job.nnnnThe employee is responsible for correcting and/or reporting any conditions within the building or grounds that may be hazardous to employees, students or staff members assigned to the building.nnnnnnnnn
