Kodiak Support Services is seeking a HVAC Mechanic to perform maintenance work on heating, ventilation, cooling, and refrigeration systems that control the air quality in many types of buildings in Kodiak, Alaska .
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
HVAC Mechanic installs, troubleshoots, services and repairs environmental-control systems in residences, office buildings, and other commercial establishments. Installs new or repaired components and performs complex modifications on systems and components in accordance with applicable electrical publications and directives.
HVAC Mechanic must be proficient in troubleshooting; environmental-control systems compressors, condensers, heat pumps regulators, fluid and refrigerant gas lines valves, meters, gages, thermostats, pumps, mechanical linkage, and electrical sensing, switching and controlling devices including pneumatic controls, variable speed drives, digital drive controlled devices, electronic, hydraulic heating and cooling and economizer systems.
HVAC Mechanic performs pipefitting and structural layout, mounts compressor and condenser units on platform or floor while using hand tools. Following blueprints or engineering specifications to fabricates, assembles and installs ductwork including chassis parts while using portable metal working tools.
HVAC Mechanic must be proficient in cutting and bending of tubing to correct length and shape while using cutting and bending equipment. In addition to cutting and threading pipe, using machine-threading or hand-threading equipment, joining tubing or pipes by means of sleeves, couplings or unions, and solders joints.
HVAC Mechanic must perform complex repair of systems component such as compressors, condensers, heat pumps regulators, fluid and refrigerant gas lines valves, meters, gages, thermostats, pumps, mechanical linkage, and electrical sensing, switching and controlling devices including pneumatic controls, variable speed drives, digital controlled devices, electronic, hydraulic heating and cooling and economizer systems.
Additional jobs and tasking as directed.

Job Requirements :
QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND LICENSURE
Required:
Applicant is required to have 5 year’s previous work experience in troubleshooting industrial and domestic heating and ventilation control systems.
Must be able to clearly communicate (oral and written) in the English language and work independently.
Must have good documentation and organization skills and be able to respond to calls outside of normal working hours.
Must pass a urinalysis exam, a background investigation, and have a valid Alaska driver’s license.
A High school education or G.E.D equivalent is required.
Prior job references required
Successful candidate will be required to join the Teamsters Union.
Preferred:
To HVAC Mechanics capable of working with DDC, UPS, and motor controllers for building control systems equipment given special preference .
Commercial refrigeration and freon license preferred but not required. .
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
Installing equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications.
Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
Repairing machines or systems using the needed tools.
The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.

Ability to maneuver around construction sites sees, hear, and verbally communicate with co-workers and clients. Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, walking, standing, lifting, pushing, pulling, twisting, throwing, reaching, squatting, stretching, and bending for prolonged periods of time. At times lift and handle as much as 75 pounds. Visual acuity to review written documentation and ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Job is performed in a noisy and hot and dusty environments and work with and around water, steam, gas, and eletrican distribution and power systems related to assigned equipment . Injury exposure could be severe cuts and bruises; considerable physical effort of hands and arms required. This position requires driving and working out of doors in extreme heat and possibly intermittent weather.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS:
As a condition of employment, may be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results. Must be able to obtain security clearance and pass security clearance investigation.
