Kodiak Support Services (KSS) is seeking a Steam & Refrigeration Mechanic at the U.S. Coast Guard Base in Kodiak, Alaska. To Perform troubleshooting and maintenance on industrial and residential refrigeration; and steam distribution and heating systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:
Journeyman mechanic troubleshoots repairs and services commercial and residential steam distribution, heating and controls. Installs repairs and performs complex modifications on steam distribution components in accordance with applicable publications and directives
Journeyman mechanic must be proficient in troubleshooting diagnosis, service, repairand maintenance of various pieces of equipment in the steam distribution system. This includes but not limited to, steam, water, and air, reducing valves, traps, condensate tanks and steam metering.
Journeyman mechanic must be proficient in, troubleshooting, diagnosis, service, and repair fluid commercial refrigeration systems both coolers, chill and freezer applications; both independent and integrated systems.
Journeyman mechanic installs new or repairs components and performs complex modifications on systems and components for both steam and refrigeration work in accordance with applicable publications and directives.
Journeyman mechanic will obtain and maintain required certifications.
Comply with all applicable standards, policies, and procedures, including safety procedures and the maintenance of a clean work area

Job Requirements :
Required:
Must be available during working hours and within one hour after regular working hours.
Must be willing and able to respond to calls outside of normal working hours.
Must be able to work independently.
Must have Alaska licenses and certification.
Must have Five (5) years steam distribution and commercial refrigeration experience.
Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Must have current Freon license.
Must have current Alaska driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
Installing equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications.
Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
Repairing machines or systems using the needed tools.
The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong and solve the problem without supervision.

Ability to maneuver around construction sites sees, hear, and verbally communicate with co-workers and clients. Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, walking, standing, lifting, pushing, pulling, twisting, throwing, reaching, squatting, stretching, and bending for prolonged periods. Ability to perform manual labor under dirty and uncomfortable situations in all types of weather conditions. Ability for continues physical effort, including frequent bending, walking, manipulation of and heavy lifting (55 Lbs) of parts tools and equipment. At times, lift and carry as much as 75 pounds. Visual acuity to review written documentation and ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Job is performed in a noisy and hot environments and work with water. Injury exposure could be severe cuts and bruises; considerable physical effort of hands and arms required. This position requires driving and working out of doors in extreme heat and possibly intermittent weather
