Merrimack County is accepting applications for a full time HVAC Systems Supervisor t
o ensure the safe and efficient operation of the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and associated systems for Merrimack County buildings and provide direct supervision and guidance to HVAC technicians. Primary Shift:
Generally Mon – Fri, 7am to 3pm; alternating on-call status required; occasional weekends/evenings/holidays as needed.
Essential Job Functions to include:
Perform a variety of standard to moderately complex technical tasks related to installing, maintaining and repairing heating, cooling, ventilation and related systems.
Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair of various makes and models of HVAC equipment.
Maintain the County’s physical plants/HVAC, refrigeration systems in a state of operating excellence that it presents no problems or interruptions of building activities.
Trains and supervises staff in the proper operation and repair of systems.
Inspect current HVAC systems for effectiveness and safety.
Maintain accurate inventory of all equipment and HVAC resources.
Maintain accurate reports on service of equipment.
Responsible for disposing of or recycling any chemical byproducts of the HVAC system in compliance with all federal, state and local laws and regulations for storage, use and disposal of trash, waste and hazardous material.
Evaluation of the work performance of subordinate electricians on an annual basis.
Act as County agent in obtaining proper permits needed for all HVAC projects as required by state and local codes.
Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of HVAC components and equipment to ensure conformance to the building and safety codes.
Design and plan new HVAC equipment and projects, submitting recommendations and cost estimates to Director of Facilities for approval.
Maintain records of time and expenses of materials utilized on projects; prepare reports and recommend purchase of HVAC equipment.
Responsible to emergency maintenance calls on a rotating basis.
Perform other similar duties as requested or directed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities to include:
knowledge of standard practices, methods, tools and materials of the plumbing or pipefitting trade
Knowledge of the principles governing the operation of steam boilers and auxiliary equipment.
Knowledge of the standard tools and practices used in the maintenance and repair of steam boilers and auxiliary equipment.
Knowledge of and ability in firing boilers and maintaining steam pressure for heating and power.
Thorough knowledge of mechanical and electronic systems.
Knowledge of the procedures for installation, repair, maintenance, calibration, integration and auditing of mobile and fixed ambient air quality monitoring equipment and regulations.
Ability to make estimates of time and material.
Ability to work from sketches, blueprints and specifications and to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the Director of Facilities.
Requires skill in developing formats and procedures for special applications or in investigating and reviewing the use of equipment and data for a specialized function.
Requires direct supervision of other employees doing related or similar work, including scheduling work, recommending leave, reviewing work for accuracy, performance appraisal, or interviewing applicants for position vacancies.
Requires performing regular job functions in an environment which includes exposure to continuous physical elements or a number of disagreeable working conditions with frequent exposure to minor injuries and health hazards.
Requires medium work, including continuous strenuous activities such as frequent reaching, bending, or lifting as well as performing work activities which require fine manual dexterity or coordination in operating machines or equipment.
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma, GED or equivalent and a Mechanical License in HVAC, EPA Universal Certificate plus four (4) years’ experience in HVAC field, two of which must have been in a supervisory capacity, or any combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Must possess a valid NH driver’s license.
